A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. There are many reasons why a tooth might need to be extracted such as: crowded mouth as well as the risk of infection. Tooth decay, bacteria, and other damage may extend to the pulp leading to infection as well, which may cause the extraction of a tooth.

Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.
